WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT FIRST LOOK INSTITUTE?

WHY IS FIRST LOOK INSTITUTE ASKING FOR READER DONATIONS? ISN’T IT FUNDED BY A BILLIONAIRE?

EBay founder and philanthropist Pierre Omidyar funded our launch in 2014 with the belief that independent perspectives are vital to a vibrant culture and thriving democracy. He created a nonprofit to house First Look Institute in order to insulate our mission from commercial pressures and ensure that we could operate with independence.

To build on his initial investment and ensure our independence and sustainability over the long term, we require the support and advocacy from diverse sources of income. We believe that diversifying financial support and building a community of donors— is a healthy model to ensure freedom of express and freedom of the press.

IS MY DONATION DISCLOSED TO ANYONE?

The IRS requires 501(c)(3) organizations to list donors who give $5,000 or more on their 990s.
